The Team

The skills and experience of the individual expedition members together form a remarkable and talented team consisting of aquanaut explorers and biomimetic mechanical engineers.

Lloyd Godson

In April 2007, expedition leader Lloyd Godson successfully completed The BioSUB Project in Australia for which he was awarded the 2007 Australian Geographic Adventurer of the Year. The project was the winning entry in the Australian Geographic $50,000 "Live Your Dream" Wildest Adventure Competition. From Discovery Channel to the Daily Telegraph, Lloyd's amazing underwater experiment has made headlines all around the world. In the wacky scientific experiment, Lloyd lived for 12 days in the world's first underwater habitat incorporating a plant-based life support system.

Lloyd is a modern-day underwater pioneer with a passion for delivering innovative educational projects. Together, Lloyd and his team want to push the boundaries of future development in the technologies critical to undersea exploration and inspire the next generation of environmentalists, scientists and adventurers in the process.

Simon Joncas and the Omer submarine team

Simon Joncas is an assistant professor at the Ecole de Technologie Superieure (ETS) in Montreal, Canada. As an engineering student at ETS, he was team leader of the Omer submarine team from 1994 to 1997; years in which Omer 1, 2 and 3 were designed and built. Since 1997 he has continued contributing to the team and became faculty advisor of the Omer submarine team in 2001. Over the years, he has participated to six international submarine races in which he helped the team set new speed records in both propeller driven and non-propeller driven submarine categories. As of 2009, the Omer team holds the world speed records for one-seater and two-seater propeller driven categories and one-seater non-propeller category. Young engineers Terry Savard and Tommy Gagnon (pictured left) and the 2010 Omer submarine team leader Jacques Boivin will join Simon in Greece for Phase 1 of the Life Amphibious in September 2009.
